What is User Experience?

“User experience is how you feel about every interaction you have with what’s in front of you in the moment you’re using it.”

- A quote from User Testing Blog What is User Experience?

Watch this video of Don Norman explaining the term ‘UX’

You probably noticed the term ‘UX’ is quite broad by nature. Here are some Areas Related to Building the User Experience that we commonly practice in digital space.

User Research
“User research focuses on understanding user behaviors, needs, and motivations through observation techniques, task analysis, and other feedback methodologies.” - Usability.gov

Information Architecture
“A good IA helps people to understand their surroundings and find what they’re looking for – in the real world as well as online.” - The Information Architecture Institute

Interaction Design
“Interaction design is the design of the interaction between users and products, which often involves elements like aesthetics, motion, sound, space, and many more.” - The Interaction Design Foundation

Content Strategy
“A content strategy is the high-level vision that guides future content development to deliver against a specific business objective.” - Distilled

Visual Design
“Visual design is the use of imagery, color, shapes, typography, and form to enhance usability and improve the user experience.” - UX Booth

Have you heard of any of these terms? You may realize that you’ve been practicing some of the disciplines without even knowing it.

Don’t worry even if it feels like a flood of new terms and concepts. We’ll keep coming back to these concepts throughout the course.
